Dr Elysia Thornton-Benko Bsc MBBS (Hons) PhD FRACGP 

Dr Elysia is a specialist General Practitioner/Family Physician who was a former top ranked Australian Junior and American College Circuit Tennis Player. Prior to specialist GP training, and after internship, Dr Elysia worked as a resident hospital doctor inclusive of a variety of oncology related areas - Haematology, Medical Oncology, Melanoma/Surgical Oncology and Radiation Oncology in addition to a broad range of General Medical, Surgical and Emergency terms. She spent 2.5 years in specialist radiation oncology training but decided to change direction, and prior to entering GP training, worked as a community palliative care registrar and as a senior resident in paediatrics.

Dr Elysia continues to enjoy her general medical work covering all ages, genders and medical conditions, including preventative health and wellness, and has a special interest and passion in Cancer Survivorship both in adults and in children. She is currently involved in this growing field both clinically, in research and in an advisory capacity. She believes there is a growing need for community health professional involvement to support those who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis and to work cohesively alongside the hospital oncology treatment teams, providing patients and their families with optimal holistic care. 

Dr Elysia is passionate about “Wellness for All” and offers compassionate, personalised care, working with the goals and aims of a patient. She is skilled in dealing with illness, through to those wanting to optimise their general health and wellbeing, through to supporting others to achieve specific performance and athletic outcomes.
